AIRSOFTAHOLICS ANONYMOUS

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

cqb_1.jpg

“Hello, my name is John. I’m an airsoftaholic…”

“…I have slept on the couch and on the floor because my guns and gear have taken over my bed. My rifle has been modified and upgraded so many times that none of the original parts are left. The first thing I do at work is log on to an airsoft forum and check whether my buddies sent me an invite to the next game. I wear a ghillie suit and sit in the garden for hours on end just to blend with the foliage. I’ve seriously contemplated quitting my job to follow my “true calling”. I have completely forgotten about family and everything else in my life. All I live for now is the next big game…”

Our friend, “John” is but one among thousands of individuals afflicted with an incurable, drug-resistant strain of “airsoftitis”. Often, symptoms may not be apparent or detectable. He is just like anyone else: a professional with a degree in business arts or medicine, a college kid on summer holiday, a mill worker on leave or your neighbor two blocks down who likes to plink. Sometimes,
he may even be a “she”.

Why the side arm DOES matter

The Science of the Side Arm
Why the side arm DOES matter

militaryredep2_armyparatrooper-r3_photo_01_dp.jpgWe all understand what the side arm is: that last resort weapon, most of the time being a pistol, that’s ready at your side in the event your primary weapon runs out of ammo during a firefight, becomes inoperable, or for some other reason you cannot use your primary weapon. They are normally easy to access, whether in a holster, leg holster, in an easy-to-reach pouch, pocket, wherever.

Most people glance the side arm as that extra luggage. You only bring it “because you might need it.” Well I’m writing to tell you, that’s not true.

MARPAT and ACUPAT

Monday, January 28th, 2008

You guys sure have noticed that US marines now is wearing a new set of camourflage BDU, known as MARPAT. Why do they switch from the old set to a new one?

MARPAT (short for MARine Disruptive PATtern) is a pixelated camouflage pattern in use by the United States Marine Corps, introduced with the Marine Corps Combat Utility Uniform (MCCUU), which replaced the Battle Dress Uniform. The pattern is formed by a number of small rectangular pixels of color. In theory, it is a far more effective camouflage than standard uniform patterns because it mimics the dappled textures and rough boundaries found in natural settings. This is caused by how the human eye interacts with pixelated images. It is also known as the “digital pattern” or “digi-cammies” because of its micropattern (pixels) rather than the old macropattern (big blobs).

The United States Marine Corps has patented MARPAT[1], and registered the trademark “MARPAT”. By regulation, the pattern and items incorporating it, such as the MCCUU and ILBE backpack, are to be supplied by authorized manufacturers only and are not for general commercial sale, although imitations are available. Authentic MARPAT material is distinguishable by a Eagle, Globe, and Anchor emblem incorporated into the pattern.
