What is Paintball?
Popularly described as a more advanced and challenging version of ‘tag’ and ‘hide & seek’. Paintball can hardly be considered a child’s play. Think of it as a game where adults can get together for a dose of serious fun as they explore their adventurous and competitive streaks.
In paintball, strength and speed can only take you so far. Success comes from a combination of strategy, quick thinking, leadership abilities and, most importantly, team work. Paintball is not just about de-stressing; it promotes team spirit, effective communication, problem solving and decision making skills, self confidence, and tunes up your hand – eye coordination. Most importantly, it teaches you to keep cool when under pressure, and that winning is just half the fun………..the other half comes from just playing the game.
Paintgun/Marker
Paintguns, also called ‘marker’, comes in a variety of shapes and styles. They may be powered by carbon dioxide ( co2 ) or compressed air. Many have power systems that use large refillable cylinders called ‘tanks’ or ‘bottles’ that fire hundreds of shots before needing to be refilled. Some use small 12 gram Co2 as their power source, each powerlet being good for 15 to 30 shots.
Paintballs
A paintball is a round thin – skinned gelatine capsule with coloured liquid inside it. Paintballs are similar to large round vitamin capsules or bath oil beads. The fill inside paintballs is non – toxic, non-caustic, water-soluble, biodegradable and halal. It rinses out of clothing and off skin with mild soap and water.
Paintballs comes in rainbow of bright colours: blue, pink, white, orange, yellow and many more. When a paintball tags a player, the gelatine skin splits open, and the liquid inside leaves a bright ‘paint’ mark. A player who is marked is eliminated from the game.
Safety
For safety, paintball players always must wear goggles specifically designed for paintball to protect their eyes. Goggles must be worn during the game and at all times when a person is in an area where shooting is permitted such as the target range or chronograph area. A protective face mask is mandatory nearly everywhere, and should be worn regardless.
Referee
Referees on the field enforce safety and game rules. No physical contact is permitted in the game, and players are ejected from games or the playsite for breaking safety or playing rules. Fields have boundaries, and a player who steps outside a field’s boundary is eliminated from that game.
Eliminated Players
When you are eliminated, call ‘out’ as loud as possible, raise your hand and walk off the field. Do not remove your goggles until you are back at the safe zone.
Don’t argue with the referees or judges. If a referee calls you out, simply leave the playing field. The referees are there to help you have fun and to keep it safe. Listen to them at all time.
Types of Recreational Games
1. Capture the Flag
This is the most commonly played game, two teams each starts at a fort at different ends of the playing field, be it woods, or combat town. The idea is to get the other flag and bring it to your fort.
2. Center Flag
One particularly interesting game is center flag. One flag in the center of the playing field and two teams starting on either side trying to get the flag and take it across the field to the other team’s bunker ( base). I really like this game.
3. Tournament Fun
Divide the number of players into two teams, shoot down some bottles and start to capture your flag from the center of the field back to your own base. The winning team will score 3 points. This game can also be played by very big groups of people and they can also divide into many teams to play the round robin format. The team that scores the highest points from the round robin will be deemed as the winner of the day!
